What You'll Do
Step 1: Coffee, Pan Dulce & Market Origins
We start at a cozy local cafe with fresh pan dulce and Mexican coffee as we share the rich origin story of ancient tianguis, bartering (trueque), and market culture. From there, we visit Mercado Emiliano Zapata to explore traditional butcher and fish stalls, taste warm hand-pressed tortillas, and sample a variety of daily seasonal ingredients and regional spices selected fresh by our local vendors.
Step 2: Cuale River Walk & Indigenous Art
Stroll along the iconic Cuale River while learning about Puerto Vallarta's history and vibrant cultural center. We'll cross into Mercado Río Cuale to meet master artisans — featuring modern Náhuatl crafts, authentic Huichol art from the Sierra, and handcrafted leather goods.
Step 3: Traditional Fonda Lunch & Sweet Finish
Head to the downtown Municipal Market to sit down for a delicious, authentic lunch at a neighborhood fonda. We finish our journey at Mercado Ávida with a sweet local dessert in a comfortable spot with Wi-Fi and easy access to taxis.
